Forums

Hi, Can anybody tell me what year or model or year this AMC gearbox would belong to, has number NA3722 stamped into casing.

looking at the Roy Bacon Twin book there seems to be three types AMC 1-2-3 but no information on numbers.

Thanks in advance.

The number stamping would mean that gearbox could belong to either an Atlas, 650, 99, 88,or an N15CS. The NA was added in 1963 for the first batch of Norton Atlas Scramblers from engine and frame number 107388. If it had an MA it would be a Matchless gearbox. The P11's had P11 then the gearbox number stamped on the top mounting stud casting. The P11A Ranger 750's had the same engine, frame and gearbox numbers, so the Ranger 750 gearbox would be stamped with a 128646 as an example for the first of that batch made and dispatched. It is all in the inner gearbox casting configurations. The top casting iseither left or right hand for the top mounting bolt. The easiest way to tell is does the top casting have a cut out for a primary chain adjuster? If it does it is an N15CSone, if it doesnot it is a Featherbed Norton one.
