Fork damper rod length?

Forums
Hi allMy 68 fastback had extended forks when I bought it. The stanchions are 31 inches long and should be 23 1/4. The problem I have is trying to figure out what is going on with the internals. The spring is original, it was extended by adding a piece of chrome chair leg under it?? But I can't work out how the damper rod was extended. There is no joins in it.I'm thinking I can shorten it and reuse. It is 28" long, and has the pin hole 19 1/4" from the top and then a small groove under that. Is this right. If it is I can chop it and thread the bottom. Can someone please give me the dimension for it? How far from the top is the pin hole, what is overall length and how much thread is on the bottom?ThanksDean

I decided to up-grade my forks this winter. I went to Maxton who fitted their modern internals, and set them up to suit my weight, whilst keeping the standard look to the forks, I think the modern internal should give better performance.

If you are gpoing back to stock I would suggestJohn Bould's Lansdowne conversion, I fitteda set last year, very happy with the upgrade & I noticed quite a few setson various Commando's at the Les Settons Rally; much cheaper than Maxton& excellent quality & service.

Thanks Alan and Mike. I have sorted the original internals. May look at upgrading at a later date... After I save some more cash.
