Obviously SuperGlue is ideal for rubber to metal but I wondered if it is too good i.e. you can't ever remove the rubber if it becomes worn. For info the bike has rearset footrests and the business end of the gear lever is smooth and constant diameter (no raised ridge at the end).
Might be the same answer but what about pillion footrest rubbers? I've had new ones fall off in normal use so these need to be glued on too.

Have you tried just wrappi…
Have you tried just wrapping some electrical or gaffer tape around the gear lever or footrest to increase the diameter a little?
