Dommie centre stand

Forums

Hello everybody. I have a Dominator 99 with a slimline frame. I am re-living my teenage years of the sixties and enjoying every minute. Just one little problem is that when I put the bike on its centre stand it rocks from one leg to the other. On a slope it sets off by itself downhill. The stand appears to need an extra three quarters of an inch or so on each side. The only number I can see on the stand is 17171. Does any of you know if this is correct? I take it there are different stands. Lastly, it looks like the primary drive needs to come off to take out the centre stand bolt that passes through the left engine plate. Or is this just me having a senile moment? Thanks for any help. Dave.

What size tires are you running?

On mine, the oversize tires caused what you are experiencing.

I did not remove the stand. A pair of extension pads(about 3/8 inch if I remember correctly) were made up. The bike was placed on the centerstand and then tilted side to side while placeing the extension pads under the feet. When they were all squared up, a welder was used to attach them.

Before you do all the attaching, have someone hold the bike upright with the stand up and check for clearences on the extension pads.

Thanks Mike. I have 19in. rims with Dunlop TT100s on. I`ll look locally (Bolton Lancs) to find someone to weld a couple of pads onto the stand. Regards. Dave.

Are you sure you have the correct length shock absorbers fitted? If you have wideline ones, the extra length would make your centre stand appear to be too short. Gordon.

I never thought of that Gordon. Do you happen to know the correct length?

Hi David,

The length of the wideline rear suspension units is 12.9" extended and 9.6" compressed with 110lb/in. 8.4" springs, and the slimline units are 11.9" extended and 8.6" compressed with 110 lb/in. 8.0" springs. The ferrule tube and bush assembly are the same top and bottom with the wideline (part number 64533651), while they are different top and bottom on the slimline (top part number 64533656 and bottom part number 64533651),

Regards, Rob.

Thanks for the comprehensive information Rob. I have checked the rear units and they do indeed measure up as slimline ones so it looks like I will be following the welding option. Regards.Dave.
