Commando tank - which colour black?

Forums

This may be a daft question......

There are lots of different "whites" in cellulose, but is there a specific "black" for Norton Commandos? Also, are they painted in cellulose , 2-pack, enamel etc?

Thanks

Black is easy, all blacks are coloured with the same pigment, carbon black. Paint choice is very much up to you. Cellulose has not been used for many years for car and bike paint. I don't know where you are, but automotive refinishing paint is available just about anywhere. Two pack urethane type paint is probably the favourite choice for its scratch resistance and ability to last a long time. If you are going to pin stripe the tank, as original, a couple of coats of clear two pack over the pin stripes and transfers/decals would be a good thought.

That's not strictly true. Talk to a paint shop or supplier and they will put you straight. IMO the deepest black (very little hint of red or brown) is Citroen black as used on Saxos around 98-03 ish. Used to be a product supplied by Valentine paints called 'Superblack' and that was also very deep. Information is based on knowledge of ex BMW body shop manager (not myself).

Hi-

There is indeed a great difference in blacks-I had most of my ES 2 cycle parts done in Imron and the few small items I did myself seemed black until I installed them and they appear brownish next to the rest-If you want deep rich black go with Imron if you can still get it and/or afford it- it is toxic to spray and expensive to buy-

hope this helps-

Richard
