Commando layshaft bearing removal

Forums

I wondered if anybody has a solution to a problem I have come across in attempting to replace the layshaft bearing within the main body of the gearbox.

Whilst taking out the layshaft, the bearing inner case, cage and ball racecame away, leaving the outer case of the bearing in place. I have applied as much heat as I can but without any purchase I cannot extract it from the gearbox body.

Does anybody have any tips?

Put the case in your oven at 200 degrees Centigrade for 15 minutes, remove case (with oven gloves) and drop on a plank of wood from about 6 inches and the outer race will drop out

I had a similar problem a few years back. The gearbox was still fitted in the frame. I had to purchase a puller (Kukko No:21-5 / 28-40mm) I put the puller in place and applied a little tension, then I heated some and I noticed the ring came out a little. More tension and the ring came out.
