Managed to obtain a well used tail peice that needs some work done to it,etc. I have tried the internet for information,(no joy)as to how it is fitted to the frame, iwould by very grateful if any member has apicture of the underside of the tail peiceto see what is missing, how the rear of the padded seat if fitted (the peice which sits on top),how is the rear light is secured, and is the base of the seat fitted with dzus fasteners. Thank you for your help.

Hi Keith , thank you for your reply. I agreeabout the clamps, the bolts must be GRP'd somehow to the inside ofto the actual tailpeice. The underside of my tailpeice has been.......eh!!how would you say...modified !!.....(butchered).If i could get a picture of the underside that would answera lot of questions, asi live not to far from a boatyard who repair GRP boats. So hopefully it would not be atoo difficult job to repair....thats the plan anyway. Do you know if the seat base is secured by poppers or dzus fastners?

From what I've seen; the seat base is held on with press studs/poppers. You say you live near a boatyard, in the south? One of the Bournemouth branch guys has an original JP but I've never seen it up close. He might be willing to let you take a look if you're nearby.

Hi Craig I have a single seat JPN and the tail piece is fixed to the frame rails by 4 P clips, the bolts go through the clips to the inside of the unit and fixed by washers and nyloc nuts. The removable seatpad is fixed in place at the front by buttons on the bottom of the seatpan which slot into a keyhole slot in the unit, and by pegs which locate into holes in the back "bumstop" finally the seat flap has 2 press studs which finish it off. The rear light is just fixed through with 2 bolts to the rear of the unit and the loom goes inside the butty box and out on the underside. I have some pictures but they are too big in size to post here. Hope this helps a bit where about are you I'm in St Andrews.

Hi again Craig.

I'm due back home Thursday 27th but won't be taxing the bike till 1st Apr to catch the road tax exemption that it'll qualify for after the budget.

I'll be busy over that weekend and away the following one, so are you about during the week? In the meantime I found the JPN workshop manual supplement that shows all the parts for the bodywork, pretty poorly I must add but the P clips for the seat and the fairing mounts are quite clear, I can e-mail them to you if you like.

Any hoo I'll give you a bell or drop you a text when I get back.

All JPN replica tooling and parts are now at Andover Norton but need to be sorted before we can offer them for sale again. Give us a few weeks.....

The original JPN seat was manufactured by Avon; the moulds then passed to Sprint. I have examples of both.Study of the originalJPN parts list supplement shows-

No nuts/washers iside the seat. This is because special nuts were bonded to the seat.

The front of the seat cushion locates through 2 metal plates, rivetted to the seat.

The rear of the cushion has 2 pegs which locate in 2 holes in the seat.

The above are not found on the Sprint seat which I have confirmed with Trevor Smith.

Note also that a number plate specific to the JPN was fitted. Other JPN pattern plastic has been manufactured but I have no details . I hope that this helps!

Hi Joe/Desmond, thank you for replying. Think i will wait until all the tooling is up and running. Better to purchase a correct fitting tail peice.

No takers for the 'Famous Grouse', ach we'll,i'll gae ye the answer to the question, who was the famous motorcyclist based at the old RNAS (Royal Naval Air Station) at Donibristle. His name was....Laurence of Arabia....i wont insult anybody's intelligence by what his favourite motorcycle was. Just have to finish 'the water of life' myself . Thanksagain for everybody's help. Hi there.

When you mention JPN parts, would you have the headlight mounts for the fairing? If so could you tell me what they'll cost?

Cheers

Mac.
