Ken,

I'm not sure what you are trying to do? Fitting an electronic ignition will not disturb the seal, unlike adjusting the timing chain when the timing side has to be removed. The seal guide screws onto the end of the camshaft to ease the seal over it to prevent damage when refitting the timing side.

You can buy the seal from any bearing/seal factor or from any of the Norton spares outlets such as RGM where at the same time could buy the seal guide and it's not expensive.

The only time you'll need to change the seal is when it leaks

The electronic ignition is already fit and I presume removing it first to get to the seal it will need setting up again when re fitting the timing cover or can it be pre- set before taking the timing cover off

It's the procedure from start to finish to fit a new points oil seal as I don't have a workshop manual

Ken, you can't pre-set the ignition but you could set the the motor on the timing mark and mark where the stater is and where the rotor points before you take it off. You may still need to strobe the timing in.
