Having rebuilt AMC-type gearbox number N11127 I'm now having trouble working out which clutch cable I should have. The bike is a '59 Featherbed with no adjustment at the handlebars which I understand to be correct. This obviously means that the adjuster must go on the gearbox. I have a new cable for this - however this has 1/4" adjuster arrangement whereas the outer cover is threaded 5/16" 26TPI (BSF I reckon, poss. Cycle, appears to have been done in factory).
My question is this - does this mean I need to useaCommando clutch cable or is there some kind of 1/4" to 5/16" adaptor needed? Did the early Commando have a 5/16" adjuster at the gearbox end of the cable? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If originality is your goal, why not change the outer cover to one of the earlier types with the correct threads that you need?

Pretty much what I was getting round to thinking...I understand that the Laydown box uses a 5/16" BSF adjuster at the gearbox end. I might just go the whole hog and use that cable complete. Cheers, John
