If that's the case then I've got 0.0075" on the worst lobe - would it be ok to stone that off or is it a new cam?

I wouldn’t bother getting a cam reground when you can buy new ones off the shelf. I have several old cams which are junk and are just ornaments now, I’m assuming the cams being sold are the same junk, if your cam is gone why not get your own one done rather than buy a another that needs welded. RGM used to reface cams , not sure if they still do ? My latest experience is that the AN cams seem to be ok these days.
