Vernon Fueston says in his article that the engine plates are offset 1/8" to the left. The swinging arm axle plates are offset 1/8" to the right and the axle pads are centred with the frame. If your wheel is built with the rim central to the axle pads then it will be on the centre line of the frame. With an alien hub you need to line up the chain first then lace the wheel to put it in the centre of the axle pads. Because the swinging arm is offset there will be a different gap between tyre and swinging arm tube on each side.
