Australian Rope Trick

Forums

Have the read about this in the Technical Section under "Smoking engine" and I really can't get my head around how this helps. Once the rope is in and the engine is at TDC to hold the valve closed, how on earth do you then compress the valve spring in order to remove the collets? Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi David,

Working from a very poor memory and it i many years since I have done this, all I used was a pair of screwdrivers as levers, one either side of the collet, wedged in the mouth of the rocker cover hole. lever down gently and you can then extract the collets with a pair of needle nosed pliers. Do not drop them as it is difficult to pick a commando up to shake the collets out of the head.

I found getting them out was tricky but getting them back in again was a lot harder as the top would cank over sideways preventing the second collet from slipping in.

Hope this helps.

Tony
