Amal: Concentric or Mk.2 or ...... Mikuni?

Forums

Bonjour dear Norton-owner colleagues

I tried to install a hard-anodised slide provided by B... F... Systems in my almost new MK1 Concentric but couldn't because it's too large in diameter(due to the extra coat of anodisation at first sight). My intention was to use a 2.5 slide cutaway instead of the current 3.5 to cure her spit-back when opening the throttle, and also to install a more resistant slide than the original zinc one.

I have too to sort out my no-tickover-when-hot issue, and I'm considering moving to a MK2 or possibly a Mikuni VM (gives you an idea of how fed-up I am) because the MK1 are too prone to wear, problems etc...

Do you think that a 30m/m MK2 or Mikuni would be OK for my 99? What would you recommend as basic set-up (main jet / needle position / slide cutaway...)?

Many thanks for telling me your thoughts or experience with the same situation.

Thanks & RegardsLaurent

Cher Laurent, (That's almost the extent of my French exhausted!),

You do not say what year your '99 is, but have you considered an Amal Monoblock?

They are easy to tune, and readily available new, or used.

Regards, John.
