I believe that when turned one way the ignition is powered by the battery, and the other way powers the ignition directly from the generator, (used when the battery is flat or u/s). I think that turning clockwise is the normal position and the anti-clockwise position should only be used for starting, and as soon as the engine starts the switch should be turned to the normal position.

Yes If this is the PRS8 switch with the little spade ignition key switch down the middle of the lights switch. If converted to 12V all this is lost by the way.

Robert, I strongly recommend you get a manual or handbook for the bike. If nothing else they will give you all the basic data and instructions for the controls, starting and stopping as well as general maintenance - the last point is VERY important of course. You can get photocopied manuals from Bruce Main Smith, originals rep[roductions from the usual Norton spares suppliers and CDs ofscanned copies from eBay for not much money. I have all of these for all my bikes! In the case of my Norton 99 I havethree originalP100 1959 Maintenance Manuals! Just being greedy! If I had your email address I could send a pdf.

The advantage of electronic versions is that you can print off what you need for a job and nor worry about getting it dirty!

Cheers, Lionel
