I have a Solihull 961 that has an oil leak that is hard to locate.
it looks like there is a crack in the head sensor, on the flat at the bottom. I have been told that bolts into an empty cavity that is oil free? I packed around the sensor with blue paper yesterday and ran it for 10 mins. I was hoping it would come out oily. It didn't.
That had me on inspecting the head gasket. Possible leaking there or residual oil frying. I think it may be coming through the gasket. There is no sign of blowing. But I have had a few oil leaks from the head on my classic bikes.
I intend to brake clean and pack with blue paper, and take it for a short ride. That won't lie.
I know this is rambling, but if it was my 1970 Commando, I would have the head of and a new gasket in. This is under warranty, but I live a long way from my nearest dealer.
I would like to identify the issue before taking it to the main dealer for its first service and to get the leak sorted. (Will be maintained in house after warranty)
it isn't from the rocker cover.
The questions are:
Are the head gaskets a problem on the 961?
Nearest dealers are: Thirsk; Northwich, Perth or Sheffield? Who would go where from experience.
