Ford Silver Fox is pretty good EXCEPT the spray cans from Halfords areacrylic and it just washes off if you splash petrol on it. Halfords also do five wheels silver for alloy wheels which is an equally close match, but it too is acrylic. In despair on one of my other bikes I resorted to brushing silver enamel paint. Petrol proof, but not such a good finish. So no concours competitions for me. Gordon.

Hi Dennis,

As Gorden says, Ford Silver Fox is a pretty good match for the original but as it's an old colour it was only formulated as a single coat metalic in cellulose, not easy to spray an even finish & not resistant to petrol. I do this sort of thing for a day job & my paint supplier can mix the colour as a modern base coat which I then cover with a good quality high solids 2 pack laquer, which is less of a problem when petrol is spilled on it although can still be stained/marked untill it's well cured. I don't have a paint code to hand but will dig it out later today when in the workshop & post it later. I don't know where you're located but the supplier I use has several branches in the East of England, will pass on their details if relevant to you.

Regards, Tim

Hello yes Sliver Fox is OK but yo need a Metallic Gold base First then spray over its in thin coats , and let dry then lacquer with a ethanol prof lacquer you can get off ebay if you look . and it work good to I have this on my tank now and you also need to ethanol prof the inside of the tank as well now the Harley Davidson tank sealer its the best from Caswell Europe. you find them on the Internet yours Anna J

Hello dispite all the hype About RS-paints There Not that good as all there paint for Norton is the wrong shade and in some cases the wrong colour . o you cannot bank on them That one thing I found Out, But I had some good paint from Nu-again Paints they been around since 1945.and it still a family business, there in Bedford . Bedfordshire any way you will still need a gold metallic base coat , as you will not get the right spade , I am a experienced paint sprayer, and the hardest to match is Polychromatic blue , I seen allot of paint job on this one even top paint restorers Have Got it wrong, I have managed to get it right by a lot of work and research. So when it comes to painting I know What I am doing. And You need too line your tank with Harley Davidson tank sealer before you start anything and you need to clean the inside to first its as too be like a new pin in there , You Get tank clearer for Caswell Europe You find them on the Internet , So you have a lot of hard work to do before you get to spray your tank

, spraying the easy bit, yours anna j
