I just took delivery of my 961 and after riding it for 30 miles or so I noticed that the revs did not drop below 2,000 RPM going through a very slow village. I rode it hoe which was another 30 miles and once back in my driveway the revs were around 2,200 at tick over. I reported this to Norton and left it overnight to cool down completely, started it up from cold and it ticked over at 1,500 RPM.
This seems far from normal to me and my 50 year old 850 Mk 2A ticks over much more nicely than the brand new 961.
Any ideas on why and how to sort this out welcome.
Thanks.
Yes, manual not especially…

A tale with a happy ending
Folks,
I got my 961 back from Norton & took it out today for a ride and to warm the engine up. I'm pleased to report that it ticks over around 1250rpm as it should.
i think Norton as a business have a way to go with their customer focus but in my experience it has not been the people that aren't good at customer service it's the culture and possibly the policies of Norton.
in the end though, the story ends well.

Yes, manual not especially helpful - tells you things don't need and not the info you do need. I learnt the starting technique by trial and error. For first year or two used to give it a bit of throttle when cranking over on the button and it would turn over several times before firing up , or not at all then try again. Tried no throttle one day and hey presto , almost instant starting. The only other problem you can have with reluctant starting is if battery is in poor state of charge or old - it may turn over engine but you get a big voltage drop which the ECU doesn't like.
