MK3 Camshaft

Hi all,

Probably been answered before at some time but on fitting a new standard camshaft to my MK3 i found when test fitting the cam that as soon as the nut was nipped so did the cam.

I have fitted new bushes and checked they are fully home, ive now honed the hardened spacer the fits up against the inner bush (timing side) and now i have 8 thou clearance, is there a definitive clearance that should be obtained ?

Has anyone got any advice, just trying to find out before i put the bottom end together and then find out my cam clearance was set up wrong !

Since the 200000 series through 325+ are small OD diameter bushes. The combat type are a disaster and should be avoided at all cost. The 73-74 850 are by far the best type used for this final few years of NHT. The twin MK3 style seem to leave their "mark " on the cams excessively. The length of this family of small diameter bushes are virtually identical for all the single chain engines. They are all driven to the right from tach gear thrust and even .015 is not uncommon for clearance. Your .008 is not particularly noteworthy.

Hi all,

Can any one advise me on this issue please, cant find it in any documentation, there must be someone out there in the Norton world that knows ?

Until i know this i cant continue my engine/bike rebuild.

I would machine a washer to cut the end float down to .15 to .25 mm. Jim

 

Which is 6 to 10 thou.
