orange

Forums

Looking for that elusive shade.

Trawled forum but no info about what the 750 colur chart calls signal orange.

RAL colour of the same name  is 2010 but is that the same colour?

And does anyone have a match in available auto colours?

hello sir  now have you contacted  Nu-agaen paints of Bedford  they do all RAL colours and coloured lacquers  as this is how Commandos were painted  silver fire flake  with a coloured lacquer over the top

Huw I would be very surprised if the RAL2010 colour matches the original Norton colour. Auto and bike manufacturers tend not to use standard colours as it then prevents competitors simply using the same colour. I would suggest that you talk to RS Paints and even perhaps Andover Norton and Les Emery to get  the right colour.

I don't believe that the RAL standards were in use in the UK during the 1970s. The current RAL signal orange looks too red to me.

I got everything wrong as I matched my Roadster to an NOS Hi-Rider tank before remembering that they were Tangerine !

There is a fair chance that Norton chose something from a late 1960s US car range.

Having acquired a tank, a set of side-panels and a seat from Brian Peers I asked about the colour of the metalwork.  Brian said that it was '1970s Porsche Orange'.  The colour does seem more orange than the tangerine that Richard mentions; one quote from a member on seeing the machine was 'Bond Bug Orange'.  I don't mind really.  I still have the blue interstate tank, and the black one before that.  Colour on a motorcycle is a rather subjective issue; when it was black most people just walked past it without looking but when I changed to blue it drew a crowd.  It's still the same machine so I suppose we should be pleased that we can change them in so many ways so easily [although I haven't been tempted to change it into a Hi-Rider].
