Bump starting (Alton e/s)

Forums

Hello

Does bump starting damage an electric starter motor, as sometimes the engine cuts out when I'm riding along because the engine is not yet warmed up to running temp.? As the bike is still rolling, I bounce on the seat and open the throttle to fire it up again. Would it be better just to press the starter button?

Cheers

It's no different to using the kick start, which Alton suggest you do on a rebuilt motor. As long as the engine is not turned backwards then the sprag clutch isolates the starter from anything. Bump starting does put some shock loading on the transmission though so personally I would press the button.
