Forums

Hi Repainting tank and side panels on a 72 Fastback, i would like to go back to the original Red factory colour, does anyone know a modern paint match for this?.

Regards Garry.

Hi Garry

According to Roy Bacon's book on Norton Twin Restoration the original colour is signal red which is as shown in Norton colour charts of the day.  There are several variants of paints with this colour name.

The NOC Technical Section shows https://www.nortonownersclub.org/support/technical-support-general/norton-colours-and-paints  and the following text Grenadier Red Commando Peugeot Talbot Cherry YAR054.

Newer information is available on Access Norton https://www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/what-is-the-long-range-original-red-colour.16254/#post-236085 and indicates VW Tornado Red as a good match.

Hope this helps.

Are you happy with the quality of the paint. The paint job looks good. Do you think the RS paints come close to the original Signal Red or are you just happy with what you have done.

Sorry for the belated response.  I am happy with the signal red paint finish from RS and so was the professional who helped me.  However he didnt like the clear coat that is supposed to be fuel resistant and used his regular brand.

I have the original fibrglass fuel tank and tbh its hard to compare since there is so much depth in the new steel tank colour (maybe i will try get you a side by side comparison but not sure if it will help).

Looks nice:

I have two of these red gel coat fiberglass tanks. The screen shot of just sprayed sitting on the table has a metalic look to it. The solid signal red is also very close to the plain  red of the white/blue/red JPS 74/75 scheme.

Don't know why the NOC tech article makes no mention of the factory parts book names and codes?
