72 750 head steady

Forums

I have a Norvil head steady fitted to my 750. I keep getting told that this is possibly the reason for some hi frequency vibration. I am not a knee down scratcher so prefer smoothness over rigidity.

- Revert to standard

Other head steady that is better than standard?

Thanks

I had a Norvil one and found it difficult to set up. Changed to a Dave Taylor rose joint type transformed the ride love it.

Did you install the head steady, or was it on the bike when you bought it?

If you installed it was the ride/vibration improved?

Have you tried changing the rubbers to see if the vibration can be lessened or have the vibration moved up or down the frequency (rpm) range?

Hi Michael

I fitted a Dave Taylor Head steady to my 1972 Commando 750 after years of using a Norvil type and can confirm it's transformative powers. The bike no longer 'falls' into corners, and the rides around my local warwickshire twisties are a  complete joy. Fit one - they're worth every penny!

Another vote for the Taylor steady...no more vagueness, no more white-lining and generally a feeling that it's on rails. I went from a Mk3 headsteady via a Norvil to the Taylor...It's a revelation.

Hi Mike the head steady was a PO fitment so can only compare it ti previous commandos I have had with standard set up which I loved back in the day............

Bummer is that as i hadnt heard from anyone on the thread for a while I went and bought the standard set up from AN. Dave taylor is 118 from RGM. Dilemma! Only want to do this once and get the best so will have to think about it

I put a Taylor head steady on and changed the TT100s for Avon Road Riders at the same time. It bought my 73 850 out of the dark ages up to modern standards of handling.

I am replacing the tyres with AVon Road Riders so am now thinking the DT head steady is the way to go

Thanks Peter

Fitted a Dave Taylor head steady to my 75 850 Roadster this year, also changed the front vernier isolastics to the AN softer rubber type. Completely changed things for me.

A pleasure to ride now.
