Magneto W'shop Instructions

Forums

Found this website www.southwalessectionvmcc.co.uk/Library/Tech files/lucas magnetosWhich covers N1, KN1, K1F, K2f and KVF mags. Might be useful to someone. It's part A which covers testing, adjusting and setting. Lots of useful info even if the wrong mag. George

Apologies for hijacking this thread, hopefully someone can help. I need to have my Lucas K2F magneto serviced (rewinding I think).

Does anyone know of a professional based in the UK that can do this work? I have approached most of the contacts in the Services section of NOC, but I have not been successful so far.

Thank you and regards.

I can recommend APL Magnetos of Dorset who have rewound several magneto armatures for me with good results. They are not too expensive and are fairly quick. you can get them on 01747 852136/7860 828546. I have no connection with them other than as a satisfied customer,

Please be aware that Paul (APL Magnetos) has stopped his magneto and dynamo repair business. A great loss to the motorcycling world.

Thank you Rab and Phil.

That?s a shame, that makes 3-4 experts that I have contacted that are no longer in the trade due to retiring or sadly passing away. Skills that seem to be bound to disappearing...

One company that I contacted had good news and is able to service my magneto. However, I was shocked with the quote:

"Usual overhaul cost of a K2F is £350 - £480 GBP + Carriage + VAT".

Does this surprise anyone else? Surely linked to the 'rarity' of the skill as per above, but still... just wondering if that's to be expected.

You might have to send it to India. But the bright side of the coin will mean only a few Rupee scost.

Are you sure? I had heard that rumour a while ago but he did mine last year. Is this recent news? if it is its bad news indeed.

They are near Eastbourne on the south coast of England

I have been to their shop & can recommend them highly!!! In addition, one of the guys is a member of this very club :)

Last three of mine have gone toDave Fisher down in Swanage:

" Moat House Magneto's" on 01929421255.

Last contact probably 2 years ago, trust he's still active. Great service and helped out a lot with correct parts to re-standardise one of mine.

Cheers

Thanks everyone, very helpful indeed.

Just to confirm, I have spoken to Moathouse Magneto and they no longer take new jobs, they have retired.

Magnetoguys cannot take further jobs due to their backlog.

If youngsters heard about these prices, maybe the skill will not disappear... hehe
