Hi Adrian...How did you get on with your 88 silencers?
Les
hi Les , i never got an answer, i remember them to be just like a cigar, not shaped like the manxman ones , they dont look the same, i only ever saw them on my brothers may ish reg 59 wideline and ialways thought they looked better than the most normal types one sees, guess there is no call for them so no one stocks or makes them . any how , i am still looking for a 59 88, to fit them to, if i ever find any...very few 88's around it seems needle and haystack springs to mind. do you remember those silencers?

Hi Adrian.
I've just noticed you reply to my question regarding the silencers.
I asked because I noticed that you did not appear to have any luck after I provided you with 2 fairly comprehensive replies. If you look on page 2 here on "Heavy twins" your "Silencer" post is there with my answers.
I know the type, they are fairly straight, cigar shaped tubes with no real offset and as I said Armours appear to sell them.
take a look via the links I have shown.
My first reply is referring incorrectly, I think, to the normal silencers but the 2nd post is for the ones I think you want

The best silencers are mad…
The best silencers are made by Wassell - they have rolled-in ends, like the originals, whereas Armours have welded-up ends. The 58 to early 60's silencer wasn't a straight cigar shape. (not sure of exact dates without checking references!). It has a the top section line raised above the horizontal assymetrically - plenty of photos around to show this.

my brothers 1959 wideline definitely had cigar shaped silencers, not the most common bumped up top ones the majority of nortons1960 0n have, it was 2 years old when he bought it and was absolutely as from the factory, purchased from a guy in the nextvillage to ours and well known to us all its life , no changes whatsoever from delivery to dealer to first owner tous, it also had very low headed semi shined chrome bolts securing the front guard to the stays, much nicer than the bulbous headed SS bolts usednowadays ,people say the bikes are as new when restored , but the final touchs are not there, they could be exact ... but no one actually completes to the absolute exacactness of the production machine, i will not put the common silencers on when i know they are not correct,no matter what the records say , i know different having seen it with my own eyes but thanks for your input , will remember wassell when i need and hope they can do a ' cigar ' for me ... cheers
