I had always assumed that the 'damage' to the outer cover on my Slimline model gearbox was the result of previous owner misuse.
Just recently on eBay (and we all check the Norton sales don't we!!) I noticed another Slimline model with the self same 'damage', which I took to be too much of a coincidence.
SO,just out of curiosity, the cosmetic query is this. Do all/some AMC outer covers fitted to Slimline models during the early/mid 60's have a manufacturing mark/fault ?? It runs behind the gearlever at an angle, bottom left to top right, about 3 inches long.
There is no corresponding 'damage' on the inside of the cover.

I was hoping you HAD seen similar Gordon.
Anyhow I now have another thought...was the area around the gearlever 'levelled off' to give a flat surface for the lever movement ? in which case 'my' g/box might be slightly more pronounced than others ?
Silly query really but I was curious having seen another example.

Don't think I have seen this on a Norton gearbox, ever. Most odd two turning up at once.
