Side-stand What year and how to remove

Forums

Hi All,

The bike is meant to be a 1972 Roadster but given the variations I'm finding during renovation, more like a hertz 57Frown. Any views on the year of the frame based on photos?

I need advise on how to remove the side stand based on the attached photos. My initial thought is a angle grinder but that maybe a little OTT?

Any guidance you can provide on year and removal process is gratefully received and many thanks in advance.

You might find Andover Norton website useful. There parts diagrams show replacement parts for frames.

Hi Neil.

I have a '72 Roadster with the same fitting. The side stand is just held on with a circlip !!!. This used to fall off and cause accidents, so the mounting was modified post '72 to use a nut & bolt. This was then mounted outside the frame. It looks like yours may have been welded to stop it falling off. RGM list a modification to the later design, but this involved cutting & welding.

Regard, Geoff.

Your pix show what I recognize as a 71 frame.MY 72 is 200000+ and have the next version of side stand for MY72 thru 75. It is very typical to totally remove/demanufacture the 71 style and upgrade to 72-75 style. It is offered by AN. It is a big job, and more commonly done with the engine and primary out . I have done several of these upgrades to 71'sOtherwise the ugly repair done to your bike is often seen.MY=model year
