Brake Holes, Fairings and Panniers

Forums

Afternoon all. My Dominator refurb project moves on. It's far too cold to work in the shed so instead I went out to see the previous owner yesterday. He told me that he had found a load of old parts from when the bike had a fairing and presented these to me. He said the bike had a fairing when it last ran, and this would have been back in 1976 when the bike was last taxed. There is a tax disc to prove it.

The parts include a Red Avon fibreglass fairing complete with screen, two alloy panniers and a full set of wheels with Dunlop alloy hubs. Obviously you don't turn down offers like this and the rims look in really good condition and may be just what I need to replace my existing chrome rims which are rotten.

The fairing and panniers seem in reasonable condition but would need work before they could be used again.

Interestingly, the front wheel has been drilled and machined with three holes to allow extra cooling to the brakes. I've never seen this before. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I have no idea what to do with the fairing, screen or panniers. Are these collectible? I might be able to use the panniers as they are alloy boxes and I'm sure they will come in useful. The fairing though? Is this just junk?

If anyone wants a closer look just ask and I'll post more details.....

Cheers - stay warm!

The fairing is a Avonair worth about £100 The bracketry is a bit rare . A bit heavy for summer .The panniers are 1950's A craven carrier and fittings will work . Alloy panniers an interesting addition to a classy classic. The alloy hub drilling is a  popular mod mimicking the 63 Thruxton winners look .unusual scalloping done , very clever and thought provoking.

... are a good find! Rare to find good Dunlops nowadays, and with right drillings for your bike.
