After a couple of recent enquiries it has become very apparent that some owners think that the MK3 is the same as the pre MK3, So yes, you will be utterly gutted if the MK3 crankcases you purchase once built up and fitted into the frame will not accept your pre MK3 inner chaincase, And the used MK3 crank you buy will fit pre MK3 crankcases only to find that the primary drive you have will not fit. As someone has pointed out the MK3 crank should not fit the pre-MK3 crankcases, which sounds like a few mm here and there has been machined to make it it so.
When trying to establish what one bike one owner had, he actually gave me the number from the old crankcases that he had to hand - it did not even occur to the owner that the DS crankcase had a different number of holes in it.
Below, though not MK3, is typical of what is seen on a regular basis - removed from a NOVA bike, look closely and you will see they have been used. It amazes me what some get to work and spend in the process, but in times past I suspect it was a case of the only way out.
Please, please, do the research and use a manual, the MK3 is different in many respects, the above only find out the first of many issues that could have followed.
There may also be confusion as the 750 Commando went from MK1 to MK5 so there is a MK3 750 also - using the phrase '850 MK3' is crystal clear
For the ignorant among us (i.e. me), NOVA stands for …? Thanks.
If you import a vehicle from outside the EU you have to tell HMRC using a (NOVA) Notification of Vehicle Arrival form or online, then you may have to pay tax.
There are some very good NOVA bikes out there, go for a complete scruffy model and you could be rewarded once fix u[p as they are usually matching numbers and low miles.
I bought a low mileage US import and found it remarkably easy to register it in the uk. It was a scruffy none runner so got it for a good price. This is close to how she looks still work in progress....
