Going by memory (always slightly dubious) I only ever saw candy apple red in the dealers' showrooms in 1968.

I got a flamboyant green one from Paul Dunstall in New Eltham. He took the standard stuff from the bikes before they were Customised to his spec. Chrome guards, tanks and seats went for really cheap prices. I added two white lines around the chrome badges a la BMW - looked quite striking. Black and red wouldn't go with that intense green. Nice though ? howard

Red was the tank colour choice of most new owners with the green available as an option. The Factory also built a few more Atlas models (& 650SS) for the armed forces and police of several overseas countries. These generally had black tanks.
