2into1 exhaust system.

Forums

I have rcently imported a commando from the U.S originally a roadster it has been used off road/flat track. It is fitted with a 2into1 exhaust but no silencer.I like the present guise of the machine andwould like to get it through an mot touse for green laneing. Any suggestions on either an aftermarket silencer or guidance on fabricating without restricting performance.

All help gratfully recieved

Exhausts are a science! Try RGM as they do a 2-1 system and there are both 1.5 and 1.625 peashooters available. If your pipes are bigger than1.625 then it sounds like you would need a specialmade up. Not sure of the maths but if it's for green laning you want torque and certainly wouldn't want a system much shorter than the std Commando. It's a heavy old machine for off road and the engine characteristics are a bit on-off at low speed! Maybe a slow action throttlewill help tame it!!

Hi Owen,

Partly true. If the bike has been run with the 2:1 as it is then it was probably designed that way. I would be interested to know the length of the header pipes and the length and o/dof the seconday pipe, ie after the collector. These are critical and change the power characteristics. Like at what revs max power comes in and what that power is likely to be. After the end of the secondary pipe it matters not what you put on there. It is possible to get custom silencers with quite big bores ( Harleys etc) which will not be too obtrusive size wise. I have done this when I legalised a Triumph Metisse and have used the same silencer on an 850 WASP.However you may have a problem with MOT, but as its an old bike that MAY not matter as long as its quiet. I would sound out (sic) an MOT garage first !
