Factory Assembly Manual for 69 Commando?

Forums

Ideally this is what I am after. Same as for the 60's Mustangs and Camaros. There is a manual that shows the assembly line workers exactly what goes where and in what order with the part numbers listed.

That's the ideal. Any suggestions on what would be the nearest publication or blog that would show piece by piece correct assembly of every component from the frame upwards for a 69.

Thx

Eddie

... as far as I know. You need the official Workshop Manual and Parts books - still available I believe. But as Nortons were built by reasonably skilled people they didn't need the level of detail you suggest.

Whatever the skill level, Commandos are much simpler machines than V8 cars, so my guess is the same as Ian's, if for different reasons. A complete set of instructions for assembling a Mustang or Camaro must be a gigantic document.

The question you ask exposes your newness and therefore deep inexperience. (doesn't make you a bad person)

69 commando had a variety of models. Therefore several rolling chassis, drive train (engine) versions and body style versions, wireing along with running component changes.

These are just a few tidbits I have learned since I started studying norton heavy twins since 1987. Also if you are in the USA it is even more difficult.

One other thing I learned is,internet  forums are not the greatest place for getting the right answer..neither are the parts sellers....

Good luck!

I have one of those GM assembly manuals for my 1974 Chevrolet Camaro, it is not all that it is meant to be. There is so much missing, from it, and the part numbers are now out of date and not relevant. It does help to a certain extent, and it is not that thick. The parts books come in two volumes and they are very thick, and hard to understand. Norton did make better workshop manuals from about 1971, but the earlier Commando manuals were far better than any thing that went before.
