Cylinder damage advice - cam follower area

Forums

Hi everyone, I am new to the norton commando world and I’m currently piecing together an engine

I have a couple of questions:

Firstly, the cam followers have their own cyinder/port in which they fit, however this area looks to me to have some damage around the edges - am i correct and does this make the cylinders scrap? see attatched photo.

Secondly, i have a quantity of cam followers to choose from. I see that Norvil offer a regrind service and i have also noticed oversized cam followers elsewhere online. does anyone have any advice on choosing the best from what i have, i am presuming there may be some tolerences in the manual I’ve yet to check.

Many thanks,

Andy

The damage to the cam follower tunnels is probably only superficial and would respond to being dressed back to a smooth non-stressed edge.

I'd be more worried though about the damage to the extremely thin remaining spigot where the 750 bores have been sleeved. You can see where a large part of the radius has broken away.

If it was me, I'd fit new through-bolted (850 style) barrels from Andover Norton.
