Battery Removal

Forums

Hello,

Sorry for the sad question but does anyone have a video/pictures or details on how to remove the left hand panel to get to the battery?  When I remove the seat I can see one nut which I can remove but cannot see anything else I can get to.  Again sorry for the basic question but it's been a while.  I have a 1970 Norton Commando Fastback.  I need a new battery and strap.  The bike has a electric start fitted.

.. that should be a Dzus fastener rather than a screw.

Remove bottom bolt first, if it just spins as you turn gently pull at bottom of panel at same time, it looks like it goes into a bit of tube rather than captive nut. If it was as designed this type of cover hinges on 2 pegs at top, once bottom is hinged outwards it should slide forwards and off. However your pictures give me the impression it it will not be so, suspect previous ownes has made own brackets to secure it. If you have later frame cover would have a bracket at front/top that is held by dzus fastener under rear of tank. Looks like you are in for a spot of investigating, hope you have a mirror and long fingers.

Regards Martin

Nb  when remover show us a picture of hole, if original fixings missing, some are available as spares. does oil tank have a cover?
