Early rev counter drive

Forums

Hi there - just fiddling with a 68 fastback, it has the brass rev counter drive on the timing case. It works, but the spade that engages with the cam shaft has been damaged and what is left is not long enough to engage with the slot in the camshaft.

Does anyone refurbish these items? If not I can try and build it up with the welder, probably end in tears but will give it a go if I have to.

If it's the brass type the big ring does come out by careful persuasion and then the gears all pop out and you can repair the damaged spade but be careful with the heat you apply as they can get too hot and loose the hardness.  If it's the racing type with the split pin then I suppose you would have already dismantled it and wouldn't be asking - so that's done.  SpeedoGraph Richfield are good for new ones and may sell spare parts. It's worth asking.  Also Alan Gagg's  near Nottingham builds and repairs them so may sell spares.  If your head unit is 4:1 ratio you will need a 2:1 reversing gear set (as it's best to replace both)   Good luck ,Howard
