Crankshaft Re-assembly

Forums

Hi,

The club video talks of centre punching the nuts when re-assembling the crankshaft. Clearly this does not apply to the inner nuts with the tab.

Please forgive what might appear as a daft question, but, did Nick mean the face of the nut against the journal, or the face of the nut against the thread of the stud?

I have torqued the outer four nuts to 25ft lb but the inners, with the tab to prevent the dowel coming out, I could only do up as tight as was possible with the ring spanners that I have.

Face of the nut against the face of the stud - purposely galling the threads to prevent the nuts coming undone . The process is called    “staking” ( or at least that’s what it was called when I was schooled ! )
