Roadster colour schemes

Forums

Hi,

Appreciate any help on this one. Rebuilding a '73 Roadster and I am trying to source details on colour schemes used for this year model. Also, if anyone knows a good provider of paint I would be grateful.

Regards

Graeme, it depends on exactly when in the Norton year your machine was manufactured. The 745cc would have just the one tank and side panel stripe whereas the 828cc would have two stripes.

That's what is in my Commando notes anyway. As ever, I stand to be corrected as the source data on anything Norton never all agree.

Look up RS Paints in the Services directory on this web site.

Up to March 1973:-Black painted frameBlack painted barrels

Colours:-Black with Gold lining Yellow with Black lining Red with Gold lining (Black side covers) Tangerine with Black lining Blue with White lining Blue Fireflake with Gold lining

April 1973 onwards:-Black painted frameSilver painted barrels

Colours:-Black with Gold lining Candy Apple Red with Gold lining

Chris, the second colour that you're quoting relates not to pin-striping but to the decal / transfer colour. Fastbacks didn't have any lining and the only Roadster that did was the black with single gold line. The Interstates all had a single line. From memory black/gold, candy red/silver and Interstate blue/silver.

If it's an 850 then always with the double line trim - silver lining except for the black/gold combination.

....but my 850 mk3 Roadster is sometimes Tangerine and sometimes a signal red Fastback LR so I'm inclined to say choose a colour thatyou like (but bear in mind that black and gold really looks best on Velocettes....)
