Roadholder forks?

Forums

Hi guys.Am presently building my norvin. The frame is a 1958 wideline with roadholder forks.Im desperately trying to find some top/bottom yokes that I like.Colorado Norton Works, have some beauties(albeit pricey) Would these fit on roadholder forks?

Basically are commando forks the same diameter as my early roadholders? thanks guys.

Commando forks came in several versions. The pre-1971 yokes were very simliar to the later Dominator type that had stanchions 7 &3/8" apart. They have UNF threads instead of Cycle but can be used on a Featherbed. The 1971 on type had a completely different type of yoke and would need some serious engineering in order to fit a Featherbed.

The stanchion diameters were the same on both Featherbed bikes and Commndo but the lengths were 21.84" and 23.16" respectively.

I fitted some early Commando yokes to my Atlas and the handling was fine. I even converted the head races to sealed ball bearing. If you do this conversion you must remember to fit a spacer tube over the stem to even the loading between the top and bottom bearings. Also remember that the stem thread is different and will not accept the old Dommie nuts.
