john.

contact norvil or r.g.m. they will have all the parts advice and prices.

but they will probably advise you to keep the belt drive.

why do you want to revert back to chain .

From Andover Norton the clutch chainwheel is £228 the crank sprocket is £44.05 and the primary chain is £29.50 =£301.55 +£60.31 VAT =£361.86 =p&p All the prices are on the Andover Norton website. the clutch bits you take out of the belt drive will go into the chain system I guess. I too am intrigued as to why change back.

Thanks for for the replies, and sorry for the slow response, forget to say it has had a MK3 electric start fitted, but the starter just spins over and the sprag doesn't engage, so I was thinking because it runs dry this could be the problem.

PS when is the best time to check the engine oil level ?

Many thanks.

John.

Dear John,

it would seem many peoply prefer belt drive, I am not amongst them but your answer may well be to do a swap with someone who wants belt drive. you could do this initially via this website or if no joy put yours on an auction site with a high start but in description offer to swap.

With regards to electric start you will probably need to buy a new sprag and the engine sprocket it engages with as these are well known to wear and then not grip - look back through postings on this topic. clutch outer would be fine 2nd hand, your main issue will be getting parts for tensioning MK3 chain as they were only fitted to that model - do you have them or does previous ovner have them on a shelf?

have a look at

with regard to engine oil, check it after running it for a couple of minutes to make sure there is enough in tank, but top it up warm or you can end up with too much.

regards Martin
