Forums

Im having the tank and side panels on my 750 interstate repainted . can anybody help with some advise as to the position of the pin stripe on the tank ( with some measurments if poss.) and how thick the line was, Am i correct in thinking there was no lines on the side panels.

The present tank and panels have been repainted but with no lines .

Thanks in advance Russ

Hi Russell, I can't comment really, I used a roll of pin stripes that were reduced for clearancein my local motor factors & they look good to me (850cc with1 thick & 1 thin line ,black tank/gold pin stripe) .Try the Access Norton site: (justsearch for pin stripe. lot's of stuff ) - or raise the question there?

Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike ,, thanks for replying, after looking at various pictures and web sites we have decided, on the size and position of the stripe that we think looks good.

Im surprised at the lack of info available on this given so much other tech info is around, still it's in the hands of the tank man, roll on getting it back.

The tanks were hand-lined and the brushes would have been imperial sizes so whatever you choose ought to be rounded to the nearest 1/16" or perhaps even 1/8".

You've obviously found that the 750 had just a single line and no lining on the side panel ?

Over the years I've seen lots of Commandos and I don't recall seeing any with identical pin-striping. I know that they would have left the factory with 'standard' paintwork etc. but I'm sure that this would have changed many times over the year's of production and, as most of the bikes will have had at least one new paint job since the later pin-striping will no doubt have been applied influenced by the whims of the owner/painter i.e. I suggest that you apply what ever 'floats your boat'. My black Interstate has two thin parallel gold pinstripes on the tank but non on the side panels. The pinstriping is of the stick-on typs which looks good, is easy to apply and very durable.
