Welcome Andrew, I used to buy 2CV filters from Halfords, which worked fine but they no longer stock them, no wonder there are so few 2CV's left. But the last filter I bought for my 76 Mk3from RGM was fine.

I was using Silkoline Chatsworth 40 for about 27 years and as I got older, the harder it got to kick the bike over. I changed to Millers and then Morris 20-50 and things are much easier now. These are mineral oils but as I have over 30,000 miles on the clock, my next change will be 20-50 semi synthetic. (Millers) Charles B, who writes on here knows quite a bit about multigrade oil. He may advise further.

I use GL4 EP 90 in the gearbox and Automatic transmission fluid in the primary chain case. (If you have the triplex chain) Fork oil is a matter of preference

If you are having a couple of weeks or more without starting the bike, just remember they wet sump and so don't top up the oil from cold after a lay up without draining the sump first. The bike will be difficult to start with a sump full of oil and I removed the electric boot from mine.

Good Luck.

Andover Norton are also good for spares, their web side has diagrams showing parts, part numbers and price.

Hi,

Ive used:20W/50 engine (commando filter from RGM. currently just got Castrol 50 in)ATF in Primary (Castrol)EP90 Gearbox (Castrol)20 in Forks (Silkolene. Ive a 30W in now and not sure I can tell the difference).

There are plenty of experienced NO's who may recommend other options.

Hope this helps.

I see from the Silkolene oil site that they recommend CLASSIC 20/50 for classic vehicles. Modern oils are for modern engines, in particular withroller rockers etc. Modern oils, from what has been explained to me, have reduced zinc because it interferes with the catalytic converters performance. This zinc is required in the older pre 1980 engines toreduce wear onthe cam lobes and followers. Valvoline also do a CLASSIC 20/50 specifically for the older push rod style engines and specifies high zinc in the data specs.
