Not a great start to 2014

Forums

It was a dry day and from what i hear the only dry day we are due for a while so i thought a good chance to give the bike a run. Sitting at a junction when a kindly older lady ran into the back of me. Knocking me and the bike into the oncoming traffic. Thankfully they all missed me as both bike and me lay in the road. Not Too much damage but enough to put me off the road for a while. She has admitted full responsibility however her insurers require a quote?? Can anyone recommend a goodNorton man whom could supply such a thing? I dont want the bike dragged off to a modern garage whom will proberbly just write it off. I could repair myself but theyneed a quote from a reputable repairer.

Thanks Mark.

That's bad luck Mark. Mick Hemming's in Northampton, RGM oop north. Metal Malarkey in Shropshire (not specifically Norton but fabrication and frame building) - depends where you are.

Sorry should have said, Essex.

Hopefully your insurer should deal with them and have the knowledge of the classic bikes to ensure that it is not written off. Maybe there are others that have had experience of this and may be able to advise.

Hope all goes well.

FD Motorcycles, Dunmow are the local Norton Commando specialists. Never used them myself, but have received good reports from others-

Heritage Classics in Marks Tey may also be able to help. Kevin (01206 211954) is a Triumph man, but will take on other marques. He's also the wife's cousin so I ought to give him a heads-up!

If you have the time and capability, take it to two or three shops and give the insurance company the highest bid.

I'm with Carole Nash brokers. When my wife was T boned on her BSA by an idiot Volvo driver, I got a quote for repairs (extensive!) from a friendly local bike shop. The insurers then sent round an insurance assessor who assessed the value of the bike at £5 more than the cost of repairs. A splendid fellow the assessor - Mr Norton as it happened. Really. A quick phone chat and Nash agreed that I could do the repairs myself. They paid up, I rebuilt the bike. Hopefully, much the same will happen in your case.

Thanks Ashley. As the day progressed things improved, although to be honest it didnt need too much, The womens insurers became involved and understood my concerns. The bike is now being picked up today (Friday) by a very good restorer Jeca Motorcycles, whom will supply the quotation. Thanks again Mark. (feel like ive been hit by a bus this morning)

Thanks Martin. Blinded by mild rage and panic i totaly overlooked them as i write this their name is on my office wal, in fact where it has been for the past two years. However Jeca Motorcycles have come into the fray they are from Essex and specialise in restorations and have been recommended. He arrives today to take her away for an estimation. Mark.
