Model 7 petrol tank

This is the restoration work of my Model 7 petrol tank by Allan Templeton in Coventry.

My mother remembers the bike from new in 1952. Black and white pictures then do not tell much of the factory quality.

She received the tank at home and said: " it is a very nice piece of craftsmanship".

My restoration project goes ahead but for the test-running, I will use an alternative tank. And keep this one for the final "all clear".

To avoid carburator fire, I hesitate to go back to the Amal separate float chamber carb (especially used ones) or to a Monobloc, I found the Concentric easier to set and reliable.

Yes...very nice job.........Don't forget you haven't fitted a split pin in the petrol cap hinge.....you might open it up and then drop it straight onto that lovely paint....Cry

PS.... Bet you don't have the front "top hat" tank fixing rubber mounts.....or do you? ....Surprised

Good eyes

The split pin is installed.

Got some top hat rubber washers from RGM and thickness trimmed with a good cutter

The petrol tank was filled in increments of 2 liters to look for leakage above a large tray covered by paper towels. No dripping. Good to be set on the bike.

I am now fighting with the magneto timing...as it backfires and I found a picture taken by me during rebuild with a reading of 32? on the RGM disk with full advance. Model 7 manual says 30?.
