Mk.1 Fastback engine updates needed

Thanks to NOC RGM and Bristol Motor Cycle Powder Coating My basket case fastback rolling chase is looking stuning.Now I am looking to do the same to the enging, no problem I used to own one back in the day,but its a good time for me to ask if there is eny good proven updates I should do to the earley 68/69 commando engine.Thanks

Electronic ignition and a cartridge oil filter would be a good place to start. The only way for oil to get back into the crankcase from the timing case is through a hole that is level with the intermediate timing gear pinion. you could consider drilling a 1/4" hole to the left of the oil pump. This will prevent a good chunk of your oil hiding in the timing cover. Are your points in the timing cover or behind the barrels? A reed type breather valve in the old blanking plate behind the barrels would be a good move but you would need to look at some other holes into the main crankcase to facilitate the transfer of pressure.

Thanks David,way back 1983 my fastback conrods went threw the cases, never knew why,so this is grate info,chears.

Wayne, get a look on the accessnorton.com website under the topic "mounting the XS breather" there are some good photos of the places to drill in the timing chest, particularly the one down and to the left of the oil pump.
