Hi Warren..if your carb is one of the VM series type then it is very similar to the Amal range of carbs to set up....see

http://www.mikuni.com/pdf/vmmanual.pdf

What is different is the cold start operation....

Unlike Amal where a slide is lowered into the venturi in front of the main jet, the Mikuni uses a starting jet at the side of the slide. This has a small rod operated valve which iscontrolled by a built-in side lever. The valve rod itself needs to be down to block the cold start jet which means the choke lever needs to be pulled up....so there is a chance you might be operating this in reverse?....Les

Hi,

just to make it completely clear are you saying Les that for a cold start push the lever down and once running raise it back up? Sorry for being dim just need to clarify. Thanks Paul.

If it's a 1973 850 then a 932 Mk 1 Amal will solve your problem and restore your street cred at the same time. Problem solved!

Hi Paul...Yep, that's it... push down the end of the lever for a cold start and lift the lever fully to turn off the cold start jet...for normal running....Les

Thanks Les,

had a few rough running problems with my mark 3 and when I first read your post I thought I'd been running on choke! Thanks Paul.
