If it is still fitted, you can block the 'free' piston from coming out, then pump the lever, the pressure then being on the sticky one. Or, you can get piston removal tools, which have device which expands inside the piston, gripping it so that you can then get purchase to pull it out. If it is stuck, soak it with releasing agent, then use an airline down the brakepipe hole, having freed one piston, and then blocking it so it cannot come out. All the pressure will be on the sticky one. But, be careful, as it can come out like a rather large bullet.....

Mike,

I have found that the easiest way is to remove the caliper from the bike and feed line, remove the outer piston then heat up the remaining piston with the caliper positioned so that when the caliper has slightly expanded and the rubber piston seal has burnt out the piston just drops out. Takes about five minutes with a blowtorch but works a treat.

I tried all of these tricks but ended up drilling into the inner piston [VERY carefully] then inserted my slide hammer then with a few swear words outshe came.

Such fun. Roger

The outer one can be easily levered out using an old wing mirror stem.

I have an old boltwith 2 nuts, this just fits inside the inner piston. The nuts can be used to wedgethe boltin place;thenuse e.g. some wire, or an old wirecoat hanger to pull out the piston (fit before tightening the bolt, or do it twice :) ). If it's really stuckyou can put it in the oven for a bit and try again (you'll be replacing the seals anywy, won't you!)

Patience can bea great help in this activity!

Good Luck, Mike

All kinds of interesting and inventive techniques here for the troublesome inner piston when it's really stuck. My own trick was to drill a hole in the centre of the piston just big enough to take a home made puller made from a long bolt with the head filed down to leave a lip that could be hooked under the piston. Worked a treat. If you do end up drilling be verycareful not to let drill bit run through into caliper housing.
