I have a problem with what I think is excessive end play on the kick start shaft.
Can anybody help with a bit of info on the amount of end play and the method of adjusting it. I have read the workshop manual and drawn a blank.

I think some play is ok, and 5 thou would be ideal. you can shim it with iso shims that have been opened out in the bore ,there are articles on the webb about shimming the layshaft. I think Charles has it right and its probably best to replace the bush in the kickstart that locates the layshaft.

What do you consider 'excessive?' The shaft is located by three bushes, no provision to 'adjust', though wear of course will allow some movement. First culprit for me would be the bush that locates it over the layshaft, followed by the one in the inner cover, IMHO.......
