My Commando was delivered to Gus Kuhn in May 1970.

Did Kuhn put on dealer stickers on the bikes?

If so how did they look and where were they located?

Gus Kuhn at Stockwell London was my local Norton and then BMW dealer back in the late '70 s . In fact I purchased a BMW R65 from them in 81 but it did not come with any dealer stickers .They did however sell their black and gold flag stickers see the link

I worked for Gus Kuhn Motors at that time and we did sell stickers as well as parts books for all the PR, uprated parts andframe parts we sold. There was a transfer on the petrol tank and the side panels but after all these years ones memory can not be that correct. You could look at the period pictures of these bikes andalso there is a Gus Kuhn Motors web site.

I worked for Gus Kuhn Motors at that time and we did sell stickers as well as parts books for all the PR, uprated parts andframe parts we sold. So maybe you rolled my Norton down the plank from the flatbed truck .

According to Joe Seiferts and NOC records she was delivered to Gus Kuhn at May 22, 1970 as a black roadster- sure you remember it...Laughing

It may well have beenme that sat on your Commando and rolled it down the plank as it came off of that flat bed lorry back in May 1970. I used to work in the spares department, and we used to send out a huge amount of parts and also our own cataloges. I sawthe parts that we used to sell as goodies as they were called back then, and I was there when Mick Andrews got killed riding a Commando down the side road at the back of our shop. I gave him four valves guides a half an hour before he got killed.

Did Kuhn also export bikes to Germany?

The DVLA has no records about my frame number so I guess it was not registered in the UK. I wanted to find out more about the bike?s history. ( Thank you John PA!)

The German title says firstly registered at May, 22nd 1970. Delivered to Kuhn at May 8th 1970. Quickly put on the road over here if the data is correct! Cannot find out more because German authorities only keep the records for 5 years.

Hi Ulrich, if it helps...

My Commando is a 1975 Mk III sold by Gus Kuhn's in1976 & it states 'Gus Kuhn Motors Ltd' along the bottom of the rear license plate.

At Gus Kuhn's we sold allot of bikes to European and North American customers. The bikes would be registered in theUK and also taxed and have a UK registration number and log book. The bike would then have to be taken out of the country a month later. I used to go to Adelaide House on London Bridge to the then DVLA office there and get all the log books and tax disc's. I did this many times over the course of a year. The American's would buy their bikes ride them around the UK and may be also Europe and then ship them back to America. They were all issued with UK log books before they left our show rooms. We would sell a show room full of bike with in a week to two weeks. I remember a really nice red 99ss that they owner traded in for a new Commando.
