I have a 71 roadster that I have stripped for powder coating, I notice that the cross member is to the rear of the frame,not the front, on it is I thinkthe old centre stand lugs, I have a later centre stand which I briefly fitted and worked well, Iwould like to slice these off can anyone advise if they serve other purposes ? The sidestand is a short one and not ideal and i want to fit the longer sidestand again can anyone advise the best way,

Thanks David I am going to grind off the old lugs of the previouis centre stand but will give the sidestand more thought,

Hi Steve,
The plates can be removed if you're not going to use them for the center stand, the later stand fits to the gearbox cradle. If the side stand is the one that is bolted to a square plate on the bottom frame rail, I would consider repairing it, as the long later stand leans the bike over at a daft angle and puts the stand mount under a lot of twisting force.
