Dating Certificate with first numbers of frame number

Forums

Hi,

I am hoping someone may have an iidea as to whether I would be able to obtain a dating certificate for a slimline featherbed frame. The first digits are 18-100. Sadly a previous owner has drilled a hole through the rest of the number! The rest of the frame is great.I have no V5 or idea of the reg number. I am planning to add a 650ss engine and gearbox but obviously their numbers don't match the frame Any advice is very much appreciated. Paul.

Hello well you need to ask your self this question why would any owner want to drill a hole that high up on the gusset part of the frame , Has this machnie been stolen at some time in the past , Has its will be very hard to obtane the V5 with out a full frame number but what I can say is the frame was made around the later part of 1961, and would of been a early 650ss the only other part that dates a machnie is the stamp marks on the top part of the engine steady but if you have not got is you no nearer getting the hole number not even the factory record could help now so your up the creek with no paddle sorry to say this with out the end three numbers there is nothing much anyone can help you with, yours Anna J Dixon

Hi Anna,

I thought as much, sadly the previous owner has fitted a Honda engine in the frame! Hense the drill hole. I am not familiar with the stamp marks you refer to. If present can they be used to obtain the remainder of the frame number from factory records? Just read a previous post of yours and I now understand there may well be the original frame number repeated here by the headstock? If that's the case and I can find it can the records officer issue from the headstock number? Sorry if it's a daft question, I am new to this and want to get it right. Thanks Paul.

Why not get a properly informed opinion from the person in the Club who handles this sort of thing all the time - the Records Officer?

Thank you all for your advice. I have communicated with the records officer who advised the situation is quite hopeless. Onwards and upwards, I just picked up a nice Commando to restore. Happy days!
