Cutting out

Forums

My bike cut out at 70 mph yesterday.

After a few minutes it re-started and I started it first kick this morning.

It is a Fastback LR with a push/twist fuel cap. There was some staning aoroud the fuel cap breather hole.

I had filled the tank earlier and in the process of trying to wipe the stain off I may have wiped some fine debris into the breather hole rather than away from it.

Is it likely that a partialy blocked breather could have caused the machine to cut out at 70 mph after running beautifully at speeds up to 70 earlier that afternoon?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks.

I was stopped twice with a blocked tank cap. All depends on how well the cap seals as to how far you can get before the flow stops.

Thanks Robert. I had filled up that day and twisted the cap on tight. How is distance relevant?

Classic blocked fuel cap breather hole symptom. Exactly the same happened on myMk1A 850 last year at 70 mph along dual carriageway, happily only a mile from home. Flicked onreserve tap thinking it was low on fuelbutdidn't considera blocked breather as bike came to a standstill and pushed it home. Checked fuel cap and lo and behold found a whitish powderydeposit had bunged it up - product of ethanol fuel perhaps ? Next time a sudden engine flameout occurs at speed , and you know it's not low fuel, try flipping open the filler cap momentarily.
